This project focuses on talented young musicians, selected by means of intensive auditions. The NJO Summer Academy hopes to give these musicians a unique experience by bringing them in contact with music from different eras. (…) Each year the NJO invites an internationally renowned composer to become composer in residence. Last year the American composer John Adams came to the Netherlands to work with the young musicians. (……) This year, Oliver Knussen comes to Apeldoorn.”

"Traditie en vernieuwing bij Adams en Verbey. Op vrijdag 22 januari in Muziekcentrum Frits Philips te Eindhoven (aanvang 20.15 uur) staat het programma van Het Brabants Orkest voornamelijk in het teken van muziek van eigen bodem. Het orkest voert Pavane Oublieé en Triade uit van composer in residence Theo Verbey en Dead as Disco van Giel Vleggaar. Ook klinkt het spectaculaire pianoconcert Century Rolls van John Adams. Tradition and renewal by Adams and Verbey. On Friday 22 January at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips at Eindhoven (start 8.15 pm), the programme of the Bbrabants Orchestra is focused mainly on music from own soil. The orchestra will perform  Pavane Oublieé and Triade by composer in residence Theo Verbey and Dead as Disco van Giel Vleggaar. In addition, the spectacular pianoconcerto Century Rolls of John Adams can be heard. Soloists are Adams specialist Ralph van Raat and harpist Anton Sie.

"Je ziet hem lopen, in het Parijs van de jaren ’20: Gershwins Amerikaan. Hij swingt de Champs-Élysées over, ogen en oren open voor de geluiden van Parijs. Hij ontwijkt taxi’s, loopt langs open deuren van cafés met hun jazzy geluiden en hij krijgt ‘de blues’, heimwee. Heimwee naar Amerika, het land waar hij opgroeide.
Jeroen Kramer vertelt het verhaal, het orkest speelt het prachtige swingende muziekstuk van George Gershwin." 
One can see him walking through the Paris of the twenties: Gershwin's American. He swings across the Champs-Elysees, eyes and ears wide open for the Parisian sounds. He avoids taxis, walks past open doors of cafes with their jazzy sounds and gets "the blues", homesickness. Homesickness for America, the land he grew up in. Jeroen Kramer tells the story, the orchestra plays the wonderful swinging music of George Gershwin.

Armin van Buuren was born in 1976 in Leiden. This DJ and producer is by now considered one of the best Dutch export products. If ever an animal fascinated composers, it has been the bird. And the eternal question of whether it also strives for beauty in its singing. From early on, mankind has believed that art - including music - has imitated nature. The Day- and Nightingale of Theo Loevendie is about the difference between real birdsongs and imitation, a wonderful tale, with a text by writer Kees van Kooten.
Veni, veni, Emmanuel is a spectacular score which James macMillan wrote for percussionist Evelyn Glennie and orchestra. The audience will need all eyes and ears during this family concert.
